Dancing, Running, and Painting into Friends

Corcoran 1East! Represent!
Making friends at Rockhurst is not at all what one would expect. When I imagined myself attempting to generate an entirely new circle of friends the picture that came to mind was awkward and painful to say the least. Fortunately, it has been quite the contrary.
This is our brick
It is practically impossible to walk out of the first week without any amigos. Orientation makes sure of that. The first place I began to know people was at the foam dance on night one of orientation. Let me take a moment to explain the weird, amazing, fun, cold experience that was the foam dance. It was essentially a massive foam machine that filled up a bounce house in addition to a DJ and a bunch of adrenaline-fueled college freshman. The result was a chain of soapy introductions that lead to a game of cards in the basement of Corcoran Hall. How is that possible? In less than one day I had friends that were laughing and smiling with me.
My roommate, Mary
The rest of orientation was a hyper blur of fun and activity. Within the 4 days we had "Olympic" games, dance parties, cheer making, a freshman service project, residence hall bonding, how to be a freshman 101 sessions, Buzz Sutherland (a comedian), and a final candlelight ceremony. The opportunities to meet people were countless and the memories are worth making.

Orientation is over and I have been taking classes for a week. My orientation leaders told me that things would calm down once classes started... they lied to me. There are not enough hours in the day to fit in classes, homework, spontaneous movie nights, theatre auditions, choir rehearsal, pasta and prayer, and painting a doorstop with my roommate. There is so much going on and I am so busy but I don't really care. Everything has been so much fun.

P.S to all of you introverts (or extroverts who need a little extra help)
If you want a quick way to meet people, become a lobster.
